University of Maryland Extension, in cooperation with Montgomery College, is pleased to announce the 29th Annual Procrastinator's Pesticide and Urban Nutrient Management Conference. The meeting will be in person only.
Topics include exciting happenings in the insect and mite world, turf organic herbicide efficacy trial results, using the pest predictive calendar, disease updates, and equipment calibration. The full agenda will be available in late May.
Yes, this year is a true procrastinator's meeting. And yes, this will still count for Maryland pesticide credits!

Plow and Stars Farm raises grass-fed Katahdin lamb and poultry with a focus on diversified grazing and soil health practices. Join Bradley Hills Village members at the Connie Morella Library in Bethesda where Florence Williams will lead us through an investigation into the restorative benefits of nature. She'll draw on cutting-edge research and her explorations to examine the relationship between nature and human cognition, mood and creativity. Williams in a journalist, author and podcaster. The Nature Fix was an Audible bestseller and was named a top summer read by J.P. Morgan. She is a contributing editor of Outside Magazine and a free lance writer for the New York Times and other publications. A Fellow at the Center for Humans and Nature and a visiting scholar at George Washington Univeristy, her work focuses on environment, health and science.
The 2024 Maryland 4-H Livestock Skillathon will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, 501 Perry Pkwy, Gaithersburg, MD 20877.
Contest rules: Contest rules are available on the Maryland 4-H website at https://extension.umd.edu/programs/4-h-youth-development/program-areas/animal-sciences (under Animal Science Events and Animal Science Resources sections).
Eligibility/fees: The Livestock Skillathon is a contest where individuals compete. There are NO team entries. There will be a $5.00 entry fee for each contestant. There is no limit to the number of individuals each UME unit may enter in this contest.
LUNCH will be on your own. After completing all stations of their respective age divisions, contestants will be released for lunch (on your own) immediately. Awards will be presented beginning at approximately 2:00 pm.
Youth do not need to own livestock to compete in this contest; to find out more, contact your local 4-H office.
The IAA offers nine majors to jump-start your career in agribusiness, sustainable agriculture, environmental stewardship, horticulture, landscaping, turfgrass management, or ag communications. We will explore areas of study, financial aid and scholarships, world-class facilities, campus life, and more!

Learn about the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) and the Maryland Emergency Broadband Benefit (MEBB), two benefit programs that help eligible consumers afford internet service.
A presentation by Marylanders Online will be followed by one-on-one assistance filling out the necessary online forms for the two benefit programs.
ACP provides a discount of up to $30 per month toward broadband service for eligible consumers.
MEBB provides a subsidy up to $15 per month as a discount, allowing eligible consumers to obtain a total benefit of up to $45 discount each month.
