The UMD Polo Club builds on the University of Maryland’s strong equestrian tradition by introducing students to the fast-paced and strategic sport of polo. As a newly established member of the U.S. Polo Association (USPA) Intercollegiate/Interscholastic league, the club provides a unique opportunity for riders of all experience levels to develop horsemanship, teamwork, and game strategy in a supportive and collaborative environment. The UMD Polo Club welcomes students from a variety of riding backgrounds, offering both experienced players the chance to compete at the collegiate level and beginners the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of polo. Through regular practices, lessons, and local matches, members gain hands-on experience in riding, stick-and-ball skills, and gameplay while building confidence both on and off the field. In addition to athletic development, the club fosters leadership, sportsmanship, and a strong sense of community among its members. Whether students aspire to compete nationally or simply want to explore a new equestrian discipline, the UMD Polo Club provides an exciting and inclusive space to engage with the sport and continue Maryland’s legacy in the horse industry.
