Kelly grew up on her family's dairy farm in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. She attended Penn State University, where she received both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Her graduate research focused on controlling pokeweed in agronomic crops. After graduating, Kelly worked as an Agronomy Agent for Penn State Extension. She has been with University of Maryland Extension since 2017.
