University of Maryland professor and Extension educator Dr. Mike Raupp received the 2012 R.W. Harris Author's Citation from the International Society of Arboriculture.

He’s known primarily as “The Bug Guy” at the University of Maryland, but a recent international distinction highlights the fact that Extension educator and entomology professor Dr. Mike Raupp is so much more than that. The International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) awarded Raupp the 2012 R. W. Harris Author’s Citation, a prestigious honor given to authors for sustained excellence in the publication of timely information related to arboriculture.
“It seems there is no end to the number of arborists, tree experts and those in the general population who have benefitted from Dr. Raupp’s outreach through his teaching and research,” said ISA President Colin Bashford.
At the University of Maryland, Dr. Raupp teaches in the Entomology Department and is an Extension specialist in integrated pest management as well as ornamental horticulture.
“It is mind-boggling to be considered among these ranks and be worthy of this kind of recognition,” Dr. Raupp said of his award. “One of the most satisfying things about my job is that I have a unique opportunity to couple theory with practice. I view my work with arborists through professional organizations like ISA to be one of the most important things I do. Writing books and publishing papers is a way for me to make a real contribution.”
Dr. Raupp was one of nine people chosen for the 2012 ISA Awards of Distinction which recognize candidates in such areas as research, publishing, education, and advancing the best practices of proper tree care in the industry. More than 20,000 members make up ISA’s organization worldwide.
