Joy Rafey has served the Maryland Master Naturalist Program since 2013, becoming statewide coordinator in 2023, and is a Certified Maryland Master Naturalist herself. She has served on the Alliance of Natural Resource Outreach and Service Programs (ANROSP) Board of Directors and was ANROSP President in 2024. Joy was presented with the 2024 Dean’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Respect Standard of Excellence Award to Faculty of UMD’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources for her efforts to make the Maryland Master Naturalist Program more accessible and build community engagement throughout the state. She holds a Masters in Recreation and Parks Management from Frostburg State University and is co-editor of “The Maryland Master Naturalist’s Handbook,” published by Johns Hopkins University Press in 2025.
