Alan Leslie joined extension in 2019 as the Agriculture and Food Systems Agent for Charles County. His extension programming focuses on promoting adoption of integrated pest management (IPM) strategies for managing insect, weed, and disease pests in vegetable and agronomic cropping systems. Alan's previous research experience includes nutrient transport and fate in agricultural drainage ditches, the biology and ecology of invasive insect pests, enhancing biological control by providing floral resources, and the impact of cover crops on soil food webs. Current research projects include using cover crops to suppress weeds in reduced tillage vegetable production and developing IPM strategies for stem-boring insect pests. Alan received his B.S. in Marine Biology and his Ph.D. in Entomology from the University of Maryland.
