Vegetable gardens need a little love to keep them healthy and productive year after year.  In this session, we will cover steps you can take to not only maintain, but to actually improve your vegetable garden year after year.  Topics covered:  Building healthy soil, crop rotation, pest and disease management, composting, and record keeping.  

UNSURE OF YOURSELF WHEN YOU ARE ABOUT TO PRUNE YOUR WOODY ORNAMENTALS?  JOIN THE CECIL COUNTY MASTER GARDENERS FOR A PRESENTATION ON CONFIDENT CUTS!  

Be a confident pruner by learning:  basic plant physiology, pruning techniques, reasons to prune, and tools needed.  We will also practice with hand pruners.

UME will host town hall meetings across the state to gather feedback and input from community residents and stakeholders. This is a unique opportunity for community members to help shape UME’s strategic focus and influence future programming and outreach efforts. These town hall meetings offer a forum for community members to share insights on local needs, discuss pressing opportunities, ask questions, and provide valuable feedback on UME’s future direction. The perspectives and ideas shared during this event will be instrumental as UME develops a plan that responds to the challenges and priorities identified by Maryland communities.

This is our annual meeting for farmers and producers to receive education and Nutrient Management and Private Pesticide License credits.

Learn how to create your own unique soaps.  This workshop will cover everything from ingredients to techniques.  Learn which ingredients to use, how to cut and label the final product, equipment needed, and safety procedures.

Get cozy while learning about how types of tea are grown and looking at tea's connection to American history. 

Join us for an exciting workshop where you'll learn the fundamentals of iris folding and create your own beautiful cards!  Iris Folding is a technique that layers paper strips across a cutout shape to form a “swirl” shape similar to the iris of a camera. It looks complicated, but is so easy and a fun way to make beautiful greeting cards.

Want to explore a different approach to gardening?  Want to learn about different gardening strategies?  At this event, learn less traditional gardening approaches, pros and cons of these approaches, and receive reliable research sources for these approaches.

Make your own Holiday Swag using fresh & fragrant natural materials.  Class includes all materials, but please feel free to bring that special decoration to include in your swag.

This is a contest in which teams compete. Youth and coaches who wish to participate should contact the county/city 4-H office for information about team selection. Team members selected for statewide competition must be registered using the 4HOnline system and approved by their county/city 4-H office. Entries are due by November 17th. For more information on the structure of teams, please refer to the section entitled, “Teams”. 

The contest will feature Junior, Intermediate, and Senior age divisions. Registration for the event will open soon in 4-H Online and will be due by November 17, 2024.
