University of Maryland Extension’s 4-H Youth Development Program launched their inaugural 4-H experience to Tanzania Africa. Eight Maryland 4-H members left from Dulles Airport Sunday morning, June 24th flying to Dar es Salaam Tanzania via Ethiopia. The delegation includes youth from Allegany, Anne Arundel, Carroll, Cecil, and Charles counties. Chaperones include an Anne Arundel County 4-H Volunteer as well as 4-H Program Leader, Dr. Jeff Howard, and 4-H Youth Development Specialist, Chris Anderson. The delegation will conduct humanitarian work by helping with construction of a new 4-H center in the Morogoro region, planting trees through a connection with Trees for the Future ( set up through Dr. John Moore ), painting classrooms where 4-H project work is conducted and teaching African 4-H members. Some fun is scheduled too including a Serengeti safari and hiking the foothills of Kilimanjaro. The delegation will return on July 10th. The delegation is pleased to connect with the college’s strategic goal surrounding international experiences as well as National 4-H Council’s global initiative.
