The Maryland Equestrian Club (MEC) offers students of all majors an on-campus place to learn about horses. Students join to gain skills and knowledge in equine care, management, medicine, riding, and more.
The lesson program is taught by experienced students and caters to all riding abilities, from complete beginners to advanced. At the beginning of each semester riders are evaluated and placed in a lesson with other people of the same abilities. Riders have the opportunity to practice in English pleasure, dressage, jumping, trail riding, and more.
For those who love horses, but don't want to ride, we also organize clinics and social events for members to learn more about the equine world, as well as meet new people.
Members also perform daily chores at the barn as a great way to get hands on experience in management, medicine, and care.
Most decisions about MEC are made by the members under the leadership of the Directors. MEC is conveniently located on campus, and all the horses and equipment are provided by the Department of Animal and Avian Sciences. There is limited riding space, so get involved right away to reserve yourself a place in the most educational equine club provided through the University of Maryland.
