Dean, College of Agriculture & Natural Resources

University of Maryland is currently accepting nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Agriculture & Natural Resources.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President and Provost, the next Dean will be committed to strong and innovative leadership, eager to articulate and champion a compelling and future-focused vision.

Additionally, the Dean will be deeply committed to building a community whose members constantly intertwine diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect into their teaching and learning, research, and Extension work, supporting student academic success and growing enrollment while also working to increase partnerships and philanthropic support. 

For fullest consideration, candidate materials should be received by January 27, 2025.

Ways to Engage with Our Students

Here are just a few ways in which you can recruit, hire, and interact with students. To see a full list of services for employers, visit the University Career Center’s resources for employers site.

Post an Internship or Job:

Handshake is the university’s online job and internship database that allows employers to post positions, browse resumes and register for upcoming events.  This is our preferred method for posting position for students within AGNR. To post a position, you will first need to set up an account in Handshake, check out more information here. Review our Handshake guide for posting positions for detailed instructions.  

Internships: Many of our AGNR students participate in internships. In fact, over 79 % of AGNR students reported having one or more internships during their time at the University of Maryland. We encourage you to post your internship via Handshake. Additionally, if you’re interested in starting a new internship program, we are happy to share with you best practices for having a successful internship program. Attend Events:

Career Fairs and Networking Events are a great way for organizations to connect with UMD students and build brand on our campus. The University Career Center hosts a number of fairs and events during the academic year to meet your recruiting needs.  The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources does not host career fair exclusively for AGNR students, however, we encourage employers seeking to recruit our students attend our fairs hosted by the University Career Center and the President’s Promise, including the Environmental Career Fair which takes place each Spring. On Site Visits:

Careers within agriculture and natural resources are very applied and hands on. Our students are very eager to visit your organization. Consider hosting students through:

  • Intern For a Day Program: Host a student for a one day job shadow opportunity to expose them to your organization and career field.

  • During a Career Shuttle, the host employer typically arranges a tour for students and presents the opportunity to hear firsthand from current employees, including interns, about their roles.

Opportunities for Alumni

  • Participate on a Career Panel or Workshop and share your career journey and expertise with our students

  • Alumni are invited to join the Terrapins Connect which offers a safe and secure space for alumni-to-student and alumni-to-alumni advising and mentoring.  Alumni with in fields related to agriculture and natural resources are strongly encourage to participate.

Agricultural Careers and Entrepreneurship Center (ACE Center)

Pursue a Career in Ag!

The ACE virtual center provides helpful resources, training, and opportunities for current AGNR students, prospective UMD students, K-12 students, and adult citizens/Maryland aspiring farmers

Designed for people interested in pursuing a career in an agricultural field to further advance agricultural systems across Maryland, the ACE Virtual Center is a project of the AGNR strategic initiative group, "Advancing Innovative, Profitable, and Sustainable Agricultural Production Systems"

Undergraduate Technology Apprenticeship Program (UTAP)

Work with Faculty Mentors while Earning credits and Learning skills

The Undergraduate Technology Apprenticeship Program, or UTAP, is sponsored by the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources in collaboration with the Office of Undergraduate Studies and pairs undergraduate students trained in instructional technology and pedagogy with faculty members in need of technical assistance.
