Representatives from University of Maryland Extension (UME) came out to the Farmer’s Market at Maryland Wednesday to help promote Food Day and inform shoppers about the many services and programs offered through UME.

Christie Balch, UME Program Coordinator for the Center for Educational Partnership in Riverdale, helped promote Extension’s involvement in nutrition education as well as field questions about what Extension is all about and how people can find resources in their own communities.

Melissa Avery, a Prince George’s County Master Gardener, was also on hand to answer gardening questions and pass out nutritious recipes that use fresh ingredients found at farmer’s markets.

Food Day is a nationwide celebration and movement aimed at promoting healthy, affordable, sustainable food and improving the American diet. Click here to learn more.
