Meet the Associate Dean for Academic Programs

Dr. Joe Sullivan has been chosen as the Associate Dean for Academic Programs

Dr. Sullivan has been involved in teaching, research, and extension at UMD for 31 years. Before his appointment as Associate Dean for Academic Programs, he served as the Interim Director for the Environmental Science and Policy Department. He taught courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, and advised students across all levels of academia. Dr. Sullivan has created valuable multidisciplinary connections through his involvement in numerous committees that will aid him in advancing the educational enterprise within the college.

Dr. Sullivan received his A.B in Biology from Erskine College, his M. S in Biology from Western Carolina University, and his Ph. D. in Plant Physiology from Clemson University. The research in his lab focuses on the responses of plants to environmental stressors.

Dr. Sullivan succeeds Dr. Evelyn Cooper, who served as the interim Associate Dean for Academic Programs. 

Dr. Sullivan’s appointment formally beings August 1st. We are proud of his accomplishments and look forward to his impact on the College!
