Members of the University of Maryland Extension (UME) Grow It Eat It team are heading to Washington, D.C. for the 135th annual White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday, April 1!

This is the second year representatives from UME’s Grow It Eat It and Master Gardeners programs have been invited to the White House Egg Roll to share information and engage children and families by teaching them about the benefits of growing and eating vegetables and herbs.

State Master Gardener Program Coordinator Jon Traunfeld will be on hand with a salad box planted with lettuce and herbs. Kids will have a chance to practice planting seeds, to look at various insects under a microscope and play games for prizes. UME’s efforts help support First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! Initiative.

More than 35,000 people are expected to attend this year’s event on the White House South Lawn.
