2014 Ag Discovery Class

Twenty high school students hailing from seven different states are spending three weeks at the University of Maryland College Park discovering the abundance of career opportunities that can stem from studying agricultural sciences.

The annual Ag Discovery program is a partnership between the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at UMD and the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). During their intense, three-week stay, students are treated like VIPs venturing off-campus for private tours at places like the National Museum of Natural History, the Patuxent Wildlife Center, DuPont laboratories in Delaware, the National Zoo, the Port of Baltimore and the USDA’s national headquarters. The group also spends time on campus learning from College of AGNR faculty as well as visiting the university’s Research Greenhouse Complex, arboretum, Campus Farm and various lab spaces.

This is the ninth year the College of AGNR has joined forces with USDA APHIS to bring Ag Discovery to UMD. The 2014 class of students was selected from a pool of applicants who submitted essays for admission.
