RESEARCH FOCUS
Jack Sullivan teaches undergraduate and graduate design studios, lecture courses, and seminars in the Landscape Architecture Program. He is a licensed professional landscape architect (PLA) in Maryland and Massachusetts, a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome (since 1983), a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects (since 2005), and a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts (since 2021). He has a Master of Landscape Architecture degree (MLA) from the University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (BFA) from the Ohio State University. His research and scholarly interests include the history of garden design in England and Italy and the making of livable and sustainable urban environments. He is an active member of the Maryland Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (MD ASLA) and a co-chair of the Baltimore AIA Urban Design Committee. Over the years, he has worked with his students to complete a variety of community projects, including park plans for the City of Mount Rainier, MD, a healing garden at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, two gardens for homeless shelters for women in Washington, DC, a three-acre public park along the Paint Branch of the Anacostia River in College Park, MD, and community gardens at three locations in Buzzard Point, DC.
