Get ready to cheer on "TERPEDO" and "BLAZING TERP" at the races!
Hundreds voted for their favorite racing names for a thoroughbred filly and colt born on the Campus Farm earlier this spring. Voters got to choose from a list of five names for each foal. "Terpedo" was the number one choice by a landslide for the filly (pictured left) born on March 30th, while "Blazing Terp" just edged out the second-place name "Campus King" for the colt (pictured right) born March 31st.
*Please note the winning names are still subject to Jockey Club approval.
Both the colt and the filly are currently being trained and cared for by students and faculty from the Equines Studies Program and will be sold as racing prospects later this year.
This marks the third year thoroughbred foals have been born on the Campus Farm and each year, the campus community has played a part in choosing their registered racing names. In 2014, the winning names for two colts were "Maryland's Best" and "Fear the Fire." Our first two thoroughbred foals born in 2013 are in training to race later this year and will race under the names "Diamondback Fire" (colt) and "Amazin Terp" (filly).
