Scholarship Description

The scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors from a high school in Harford County, Maryland who plan to attend an accredited college, university, or training program in environmental science. The scholarship may be used for tuition, fees, and course-related expenses. 

Environmental science includes any environmental career that requires higher education or advanced training, including but not limited to geology, ecology, natural science, botany, biology, zoology, ornithology, habitat restoration, environmental and/or wildlife management, nature center management, forestry, conservation, park ranger, forest ranger, game warden.

Eligibility Requirements

  • High school seniors from a high school in Harford County, Maryland planning to enter an advanced environmental science program in the next year (2015-16) 
  • Must have minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 out of 4.00 or equivalent
  • Recipients must submit evidence of acceptance and enrollment in an accredited environmental science program before scholarship payment is made

Application Information

  • Completed application form 
  • Typed letter or narrative, using 12-point font, one-inch margins and maximum 2 pages in length, discussing the following: 
    • Area(s) of the environment you are considering making your career, and how your overall educational plans will assist you in achieving this goal
    • Description of an activity, experience, or person that has been important in clarifying or strengthening your motivation for a career in environmental science 
    • High school and community activities
    • Awards and other recognitions received thus far 
    • Pertinent family information 
    • Any other information that distinguishes you as an applicant. 
  • Copy of high school transcript, most recent report card, and list of environment-related courses completed or in process 
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation from members of the community 
  • Copy of acceptance letter(s) for advanced environmental training program
