Scholarship Description

Undergraduate Scholarship- One or more undergraduate scholarships with a minimum value of $1,500 will be available to residents of the Delmarva Peninsula who are undergraduate students at any accredited, degree-granting institution, with an academic major in a subject relevant to Delmarva’s chicken industry and who are pursuing a career path leading to employment in any segment of Delmarva’s chicken industry. The program also is open to high school seniors on the Delmarva Peninsula who have been accepted at any accredited, degree-granting institution and who are pursuing a career path leading to employment in any segment of Delmarva’s chicken industry. Previous recipients, if still eligible, may reapply.

  • Emerson Morgan Graduate Scholarship- Graduate level scholarships with a minimum value of $1,500 will be available to graduate students who are engaged in reserac h that directly benefits Delmarva's chicken industry. Previous recipients, if still eligible, may reapply. Selection is based on its own scoring and selection criteria. 

  • Eligibility- The applicant must be a student in good standing at an accredited institution within the United States or in the case of graduating high school seniors, accepted to an accredited institution within the United StatesAn official transcript must accompany application and in the case of high school seniors, proof of college acceptance is required. Applicants must request a letter of reference from an academic advisor or faculty member.  The letter may be returned with the application or the faculty member may email it to the DPI office (morrow@dpichicken.com) to arrive by the application deadline.  Letters must be on school letterhead and must include the signature of the referring faculty member.

  • Selection- Scholarship recipients will be selected by a committee of representatives from Delmarva Poultry Industry, Inc. Preference will be given to applicants planning a career in any segment  of Delmarva’s chicken industry. Undergraduate applications will be evaluated using the following point system:  Scholastic Record (20 pts), Essay Questions (40 pts), School/Community Activities & Awards (20 pts), Financial Need (5 pts), Faculty Reference (15 pts).  Applicant is not required to be from a family that is a member of DPI or owns a business that is a member of DPI, but DPI membership could be a deciding factor when applicants are otherwise evenly matched.  To become a DPI member, go to www.dpichicken.org and click on Membership and Benefits.

  • Application Process- Application forms and additional scholarship information can be downloaded at www.dpichicken.org (click on College Scholarships in left column), or requested by email at morrow@dpichicken.com, or by phone at 302-856-9037. Applications must be RECEIVED at the address below no later than 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2017.  Late applications, incomplete applications, and handwritten applications will not be considered.  Applicants may wish to contact DPI at the above number or e-mail address to be sure application was received prior to deadline.
