Description: The Association of Teachers of Japanese Bridging Project offers scholarships to American undergraduate students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan. The goal of the Bridging Project is to promote study abroad in Japan by larger numbers of American undergraduate students. Funding from private foundations and major U.S. corporations has made it possible for ATJ to award 60-100 scholarships annually to assist students with the travel and living expenses they will incur while studying abroad in Japan for a semester or an academic year.
Undergraduate students majoring in any field of study are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and must be enrolled as undergraduates in a college or university in the United States before and during the time they are studying abroad.
Who Can Apply: US Citizens – Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors – GPA of 3.0 or higher recommended – All Majors
IMPORTANT: Prior Japanese language study is NOT a prerequisite.
IMPORTANT: Summer programs are NOT eligible for support. Only semester and year-long programs are eligible for Bridging awards.
Duration: Single semester or full academic year (fall and spring) of study abroad.
National Deadline: Applications must be received (not postmarked) by October 10, 2016 for study abroad in spring 2017. The deadline for fall 2017 and academic year 2017-18 will be in early April 2017.
