The Six Dimensions of Wellness
INTELLECTUAL: encourages individuals to expand their knowledge and skill base through a variety of resources and cultural activities
Components include: engaging in lifetime learning, using your mind, learning and thinking creatively, and exploring new areas
SPIRITUAL: the process of seeking meaning and purpose in human existence
Components include: discovering meaning and purpose in life, determining/exploring morals, values and ethics, self determined, not always religiously based, and seeking feelings of love, hope, abundance
PHYSICAL: promotes increased knowledge for achieving healthy lifestyle habits and encourages participation in activities contributing to high-level wellness
Components include: fitness, nutrition and weight control, healthy lifestyle habits, health screenings, and appropriate use of the medical system
OCCUPATIONAL: the process of setting and achieving personal and occupational interests and goals through meaningful activities
Components include: recognizing abilities, identifying personal mission and goals, developing new interests, and learning new skills
SOCIAL: emphasizes the creation and maintenance of healthy relationships and encourages positive contributions to the welfare of the community
Components include: respect for self and others, interaction with others and the environment, the creation and maintenance of reltionships, and the improvement of self-concept
EMOTIONAL: involves the capacity to manage feelings and behaviors and accept yourself unconditionally
Components include: expressing and recognizing feelings, controling stress, solving problems, managing success and failure, and recognizing self worth and personal expectations
