Diversity and Inclusion In AGNR

The Director for AGNR Retention, Diversity and Special Initiatives plays a role in maximizing the education and career outcomes of AGNR undergraduate and graduate students and fosters a college environment that aims to increase and celebrate diversity concerning, but not limited to, race, gender, religion, ethnic background, age, sexual orientation, disability, or economic status.

Major Ares of Responsibility:

  • Provide leadership and administrative oversight of programs and initiatives to engage students, staff and faculty to cultivate an atmosphere to support, and promote the development, well-being and success of every AGNR student through resources, opportunities, and activities.
  • Develop and implement an Academic Programs strategic plan for diversity and inclusion in consultation with the AGNR Diversity Officer, Director of Human Resources and Department Chairs and to provide staff and faculty training on diversity and inclusivity.
  • Cultivate and implement diversity initiatives and programs to target middle schools, high schools and other education programs that have diverse populations; build pipelines with HBCUs and minority serving Institutions; create and implement a College summer research initiative to provide research opportunities for undergraduates that will also serve as a recruitment tool for AGNR graduate programs.
  • Direct and manage the AGNR Summer Opportunities in Agricultural Research (SOAR) Program for prospective graduate students
  • Direct and manage the AGNR Ag Discovery Program for prospective undergraduate students
