I was attracted the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources because of my interest in the earth and the world around me. I heard that UMD had a strong agricultural program, and it was also in Maryland, where I'm from.
Being in the College of AGNR has helped me decide what path I wanted to take with my interests. I have decided to focus my energy towards a career in agricultural sustainability. I have learned a lot about the complexity of agriculture I also am a Goddard Award Scholarship recipient, which has made me feel really valued in the college and has also helped my family with financial support.
Being a part of the College of AGNR has also helped me to discover the real-world implications of what I'm learning about in my classes. I assisted in a biology graduate research program with Bowerbirds from Australia, and I'm looking to intern in developing countries or countries that need support establishing sustainable agriculture. I like the fact that there is a required internship course in AGNR because it helps encourage students to get internships who may not be able to do so otherwise due to the time requirements.
Favorite class: ENSP101. Dr. James is a great professor. He makes everything interesting and he knew all of the names of his students, regardless of their class participation. I also liked that this class showed a practical connection between concepts and real-world problems/issues.
Advice to prospective students and parents: Don't be afraid of the size of the campus, everyone is open and friendly. It's easy to establish a social network on campus. We have fun, but students take academics seriously and participate in a lot of different extracurricular activities.
