Eric Yeroshefsky double-majored in Economics and Agricultural and Resource Ecomics. He says he was drawn to AREC “because of its unique perspective on economics.”
While at Maryland, his favorite AREC class was “Natural Resources and Public Policy.” “While many classes focus on theory, this class displayed real life applications to economic models,” he says. He also enjoyed “Economics of Land Use” and “Agricultural Development Population Growth, and the Environment.”
Currently, he works as an analyst for SRA International, specifically working on an Energy Star project.
“I used UMD’s Career Center to find the job I currently have. I was looking for an analytical-type job, and from the job description and reading their website, SRA seemed to be a good fit,” he says of his job search process. “They were actually the first company I interviewed with on campus, and they ended up offering me a position after two interviews.”
At SRA, Eric works as a user support lead for Energy Star’s Portfolio Manager Web application. Portfolio Manager is a tool that allows businesses to track energy and water use in their buildings.
“I help users by answering a variety of questions they post about functionality of the system and information on their building’s energy usage.”
“I enjoy working for Energy Star as I feel I directly help people to try to keep track of ad lower their energy usage, thus decreasing GHG emissions.”
Eric thinks his time at the university helped prepare him for a successful career.
“UMD helped me build my research skills and at work it is important that I be able to research questions and provide detailed answers,” he says. “Also, in general, the knowledge that I learned about agricultural, resource and environmental issues is directly related to the goal of the Energy Star project.”
