Second Annual Undergraduate Ideation Competition is Underway with 17 Multidisciplinary Teams

56 participating students enter phase #1 of the competition from AGNR, School of Public Policy, Business School, CMNS and Engineering

College Park, Md. -- The 2018 AgI2C Undergraduate Ideation Competition has officially begun with a total of 17 teams comprised of 56 students, primarily from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources but with strong participation from Engineering, the Smith School of Business, Public Policy and CMNS.

Teams now enter the workshop phase of the competition, and will prepare a business pitch presentation to the AgI2C leadership committee by December 1. With project submissions like Roots UMD, which fights hunger through agriculture by connecting students and agriculturalists; and Healing Walls, a portable green wall with sustainable irrigation system encouraging patient recovery, students are presenting innovative concepts that promote agriculture, natural resources and/or environmental sustainability and address a unique issue or opportunity in the marketplace.

Dean Craig Beyrouty launched the AgI2C initiative shortly after joining the college in 2016, with the goal of helping students lead through innovation and creativity, as well as teaching them the process of taking their idea from incubation to the marketplace. The 2018 competition will continue with final team selections in mid-December, and will culminate with a public competition on February 27 and the chance to compete for $5,500 in prize money.
