Mr. Brad D Paleg
Distance Learning Specialist
Information & Education Technology (IET)
For the past twenty years, Brad has worked in various capacities in the information technology field. He started his career with programming and systems analysis positions with Ciba-Geigy, AT&T and Bell Atlantic. He then earned an MBA from Virginia Tech with a concentration in Management Science. As his classmates began employment with consulting and computer firms, Brad spent a year trying to find himself, while volunteering, and traveling throughout Israel and Egypt. Since March of 1988 Brad has been employed with the University of Maryland, initially with the Information Technology unit of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources' Communications and Information Technology Office and then switching over to the Distance Learning unit where he is currently a distance learning specialist.
Brad's job responsibilities with the College have provided him numerous opportunities to train faculty and staff in the use of various computer software tools. He has also worked as an adjunct instructor at the College level, teaching adult learners computer programming and information systems concepts. These teaching and training opportunities wetted his appetite to further his skills and interest in training, adult education, and distance learning. This had led to taking graduate classes in instructional design, and currently he is engaged in the Master's of Distance Education program, jointly delivered by University of Maryland, University College and the University of Oldenburg (Germany).
Brad's current responsibilities include working with the Distance Learning unit's co-coordinator, Ellen Varley, in supporting the College's faculty in the conception, development, and delivery of quality distance learning courses and programs. Brad is also responsible for the College's H.323 (video over IP) videoconferencing efforts, which provide synchronous conferencing capabilities. Brad can't resist an occasional unrecognizable computer term. Finally, Brad is currently engaged in three grant-funded projects, the Advanced Internet Satellite Extension Project, PowerUP, and the Food Safety Risk Analysis E-learning Project.
Brad lives with his lovely wife Ginny, their two lovely daughters; Sarah and Rachel, and two abusive cats. While not trying to catch up with his course requirements, Brad enjoys driving his daughters to various activities, going to concerts, a good game of racquetball, a good glass of wine, and trying to stay dry in his kayak on the Potomac River.
Zoom, you all!
