Alumni Chapter Honorary Member - F. Grove Miller

If it relates to Maryland Agriculture, Grove Miller has probably been or is currently involved in some fashion. From his leadership positions with the Maryland State Fair and the Maryland 4-H Foundation to his willingness to represent the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources on the Council for Agricultural Research, Extension and Teaching (CARET) for 9 years, Grove has certainly embraced and represents every aspect of agriculture in the state of Maryland including the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Over the years Grove has found time to serve the University of Maryland in a variety of ways. He served as a member of the Board of Regents from 1967-1975; he also served as Chairman of the UM Advisory Board to the Vice President for Agriculture from 1976-1982 and is currently serving on the Dean's Leadership Council.

In his role as a CARET representative, he has been an articulate and well-respected spokesman for not only the University of Maryland, but for the entire land-grant family of universities when giving testimony to House and Senate Agriculture Committees in Washington, D.C. Grove has also repeatedly testified before the Maryland General Assembly, was instrumental in securing funds for the Maryland 4-H Center, and has sought to increase the operating budget for Extension Field Faculty and Staff.

In 2001 Grove was recognized with the national Friend of Extension Award by Epsilon Sigma Phi. This is the highest recognition that can be bestowed upon an individual for a lifetime of service to the mission and principles of Cooperative Extension. Grove's lifelong involvement has been with all aspects of Extension, but there has always been a particular interest and involvement with 4-H. Grove has served as both the Chair and Vice Chair of the Maryland 4-H Foundation since 1981. He is the longest serving member of the board and is the source of advice and counsel.

Grove has received additional recognition from countless agricultural and educational entities including the University of Delaware and the Milo Downey Leadership Award and Excellence in Teamwork Award from the National Association of Extension. It is with great pride that the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources welcomes him as an Honorary Member.
