Outstanding Senior - Adam Newhart, IAA

A native of Frederick, Maryland, Adam Newhart enrolled at the Institute of Applied Agriculture (IAA) to study Landscape Management. Adam's decision to pursue a career in landscape management seemed natural in light of his high school experiences and activities. Adam was a member of the Frederick High School FFA chapter and won national recognition in the Nursery and Landscape Contest. Also while in high school, Adam was selected to design the landscape for the War Memorial Park in Frederick. He was also a member of the 1998 Odyssey of the Mind Team that competed nationally in Orlando, Florida.

While his academic aptitude for the art and science of landscape management was clearly strong, he also worked at a local landscape company while in high school. He earned repeated kudos from his employers for his work ethic and abilities.

While a student at the Institute of Applied Agriculture, Adam has distinguished himself among students. He has been on the Director's Honor Roll, while engaging in student activities. In 2001 Adam represented the IAA in the Turf Bowl at the National Golf Course Superintendents Association of America Conference in Dallas, Texas. He is a member of the team that will compete at the 2002 American Landscape Contractors' Association Student Career Days. He has planed on the Mid-Atlantic Cup Gold Team. He continues to be active in his community and church.

Adam is describe by faculty as a "very pleasant, motivated young man, who sets high standards for himself...he knows the hard work required to attain those goals and is dedicated to doing just that!" Adam is known as a cohesive force in class and is describe as masterful in organizing and keeping the group on-task for group assignments.

Adam's commitment, interest, organizational skills, and scholarship truly make him an Outstanding Graduate Student.
