Ag Day 1995

UMD AG DAY 1995

70th Annual Ag DAy

Theme: Dreams of Tomorrow Growing Today

Ag Day Dedication: It is with great pleasure that the Agriculture Student Council dedicates the 1995 Agriculture Day book to two recent graduates of the College of Agriculture, Jennifer Woodward-Greene and Gary Seibel. They have contributed endless hours of time and knowledge to their fellow students and the College.

Jennifer Woodward-Greene

Jennifer Woodward-Greene began her academic career at College Park as a transfer student from Howard Community College in 1984. Jennifer graduated with honors (3.644 grade point average) with a degree in Animal Sciences. She plans to continue her studies in animal sciences at College Park focusing on dairy nutrition. Jennifer worked in various positions at USDA in the nutrient conservation and metabolism lab, sheep unit, animal parasitology unit, and grounds division as a student. Jennifer’s second professional interest is in the field of agricultural communications.

Jennifer was initiated into the Alpha Zeta in 1990. She served in various leadership roles including Chancellor (President) of the College Park Chapter. She also served as the student member of the Alpha Zeta Foundation.

Jennifer is the founder of Alpha Zeta’s Partners in Education, a cooperative program between Alpha Zeta and the Agricultural Research Service – Beltsville Area. This program provides practical application of the classroom learning by encouraging ARS researchers and students to work together through internships and “real world” experiences. She coordinated the program until her graduation in December 1994 and is still actively involved in seeking opportunities to be included in the “information bank”. She also founded the Alpha Zeta Field Day at BARC (Beltsville Agricultural Research Center).

Gary Seibel

Gary Seibel – the names is the answer to 95% of all questions that are asked during a nondescript weekday. How; who; where; when; why? SEE GARY!

Gary started taking classes in 1979 and graduated with a degree in Biological Resources Engineering in December 1994. Between the initial and final classes, Gary has been participating in most of the Ag student organizations and their causes.

Gary is a member of the Student Branch of ASAE – The Society for engineering in agricultural, food, and biological systems and has served in various official positions for the club through the years. He organized the Ag Ambassadors, a student group representing the College of Agriculture to the public and to potential students. He has served the College of Agriculture as an Ag Ambassador himself. Gary has been a member and vice-chancellor of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Advisory Council, and a member of the Maryland Institute for Agriculture and Natural Resources President’s Advisory Council. He has been an active member of the Ag Student Council since 1986. He has served as President of the Ag Student Council for 3 separate terms. He has been a representative for Ag Engineering, and he has served as various committee Chairs and 2 nd vice president. As Chairman (and not Chairman) of Ag Day, Gary has become and irreplaceable resources of information, materials, ideas, and enthusiasm. Gary Seibel has been paramount to the success of Ag Day for nearly ten years. With all this under his belt, it is no surprise that he was initiated into the Fraternity of Alpha Zeta.

Gary has won numerous awards from virtually all of the organizations with which he has been associated. Gary Seibel combines his leadership qualities, his ideas, his organizational skills, his congenial personality, perseverance and endless amounts of hard physical work to get the job done… and done RIGHT!

To top it off, Gary has been working as a full-time Engineering Technician for the Agricultural Engineering Department since 1980. And not so surprising, Dr. Larry Stewart, former Chair of the Department, described Gary as “an important and highly contributing employee of the Department, I could write a book to describe all of his contributions…”

Whether he is recruiting students, judging elementary school science fair entries, or flipping burgers at the Welcome Picnic, Gary is always ready and willing to tackle one more project. Thus proving to the world with his cooperative demeanor and quick smile that that are wonderful people still out there.

Although the College of Agriculture and the Agricultural Engineering Department find Gary Seibel to be an exemplary, diligent employee and student, it is his fellow students who are most proud of Gary. He is a friend and confidant to all of us. We look up to him with admiration and respect and we all try to contribute 110% of ourselves when Gary needs our help.

Thank you Gary! Thank you for instilling the need in al of us to do more for each other. Thank you for numerous contributions, your time and patience, good times, goodwill and selflessness, and most of all … for being the great friend that you are.
