UMD AG DAY 1986

61st Annual Ag Day
61st Annual Ag Day

Theme: “Education”

Dedication: Dr. Raymond J. Miller, Vice President of Agriculture, Dean of the College of Agriculture, and Dean of the College of Life Sciences

The Agriculture Student Council is very pleased to dedicate the 1986 Agriculture Day Program to Dr. Raymond J. Miller, Vice President of Agriculture, Dean of the College of Agriculture, and Dean of the College of Life Sciences. Dr. Miller is a native of Alberta Canada and received his B.S. degree in soils from the University of Alberta in 1957. In 1960, Dr. Miller received an M.S. Degree from Washington State University in Soil Chemistry. And in 1962, he received a Ph.D. in Soil Physical Chemistry from Purdue University. Later in 1977, Dr. Miller attended the Institute for Education Management, Harvard University.

Since 1962 when he became Assistant Professor at North Carolina State University, DR. Miller has been actively involved in the education and dissemination of knowledge about agriculture to agriculture students. His work at the Illinois Agricultural Experiment Station and Professor of Agronomy and later work as Director and Associate Dean, Idaho Agricultural Experiment Station and Dean of the College of Agriculture at the University of Idaho have allowed him a wide base of knowledge from which to draw for his work at Maryland.

Dr. Miller comes to us with a wide variety of other professional activities directed toward the betterment of agriculture conditions worldwide. He has served as the Secretary and President of the Experiment Station Section, National Association of Land Grant Universities and Colleges, as advisor to the Joint Committee for the US-USSR Agreement on Cooperation in Agriculture, and was also a member of the Research and Technological Working Group on Cooperation in Agriculture, US-USSR.

The Agriculture Student Council, along with the College of Agriculture student body, feel fortunate to have Dr. Miller as our new Vice President of Agriculture, Dean of the College of Agriculture, and Dean of the College of Life Sciences. We take great pleasure in honoring Dr. Miller with this dedication and wish him much luck in the future years at this university.
