44th Annual Ag Day
44th Annual Ag Day back

Dedication: Dr. Conrad B. Link, Professor of Horticulture

The Agricultural Student Council takes great pleasure in dedicating the 44 th Annual Ag Day program to Dr. Conrad B. Link, Professor of Horticulture, who will be retiring on June 30, 1982. Dr. Link is retiring after 34 years of service to the University of Maryland.

A native of New York, Dr. Link studied horticulture at Ohio State University. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1933, his Masters degree in 1934, and his Ph.D. in 1940.

Before coming to the University of Maryland, Dr. Link’s experience in higher education included serving as research assistant (Ohio State University), horticulture instructor (Pennsylvania State College), assistant extension specialist (Ohio State University), and   assistant professor of horticulture (Pennsylvania State College). Other experience work included work as a plant breeder technician, service in the U.S. Army from 1943-44, and a position as horticulturist with the Brooklyn Botanic Garden from 1945-48.

Dr. Link’s research has resulted in many articles and research reports. His work in extension has included assistance to the florist and nursery industries. Programs such as the Maryland Flower Grower’s Day, and the Maryland Nurserymen’s Day, and the Open House Poinsettia Day at the University greenhouses have all benefited people within the industry. His extension work also includes assistance to the home gardener and the organization of educational programs.

Dr. Link is a member of a number of professional organizations; he has been elected a fellow of the American Society for Horticultural Science and the Washington Academy of Science. He has received many awards and honors throughout his career.

Dr. Link resides with his wife Kathleen in University Park. He is an active member of the University United Methodist church.

We take this opportunity to thank Dr. Link for his dedicated service to the College of Agriculture and to wish him well in the future.
